Statistics plays an important role in clinical research. Each year, I undertake a small amount of teaching for clinicians at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. I am also an Assistant Editor for the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EJCTS) and the Interactive CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery (ICVTS), where I review over 150 papers a year. In 2017 I was appointed Guest Associate Editor of the EJCTS with Dr Stuart J. Head, where we jointly edit a series of statistical primer articles submitted for publication.
To promote better use of statistics in clinical research, I undertake the following roles:
Delivering short workshops and talks to clinicians on medical statistics, with an emphasis on the balance between understanding of the methodology and practical application.
Keeping clinicians up to date on reporting standards of medical statistics and data in the EJCTS, ICVTS, and through EACTS annual meetings.
Producing statistical primers on medical statistics methodology targetted specificaly at clinical audiences. See the Editorial article here.
